The Audacity of Audacity

Less than 24 hours after Barrack Obama appealed for less personal criticism of individuals and more attention to important issues, his campaign saw fit to criticize the experience of John McCain's VP running mate Sarah Palin. And within days of directing speech after speech from Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy, Joe Biden, and others to the concept that judgement was more important than experience, the Obama campaign has chosen to highlight experience in their first attack on Governor Palin before she even made her first appearance as Senator McCain's running mate. That does indeed qualify as audacity squared.

By selecting Governor Sarah Palin, Senator McCain has added executive experience to his ticket. He of course adds military experience and a long career in the U.S. Senate.

In comparison, neither Senator Obama or Biden have any executive experience or military background.

Perhaps the Obama campaign should pay attention to their standard bearer, tone down the audacity, and focus their vitriol on the important issues that America faces?

Obama was making reference to the end of political slander, such as McCain attempting to paint him as unpatriotic (which you seem to agree with) or his apparent "celebrity" etc and move toward a desire to focus on debating the issues and resume. His campaign coming out with criticism for the VP pick does not fall into the former, it falls well into the latter.

By adding Palin to his ticket he panders to the undecided women who supported Clinton in the most insulting way possible, expresses the panic he must be feeling and reveals himself as hypocrit.

You say executive experience - I see a person who is govenor of 680,000 people for a couple of years. That's equivalent to the mayor of Dayton.....and of course, let us not forget that McCain was a POW which is now his crutch.

A heartbeat away Domo.....

I have been doing some reading and just remember what I wrote in my previous post.....

Now for some quotes:

"Governor Palin ... will remind women that if they are not welcome on the Democrat's ticket, they have a place with Republicans"

-Huckabee

Palin made an immediate play for support from Democratic women, mentioning that she followed in the footsteps of Geraldine Ferraro (really?? - my comment), who was the Democratic vice presidential running mate in 1984.

She also referred favorably to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who drew 18 million votes in her unsuccessful run against Obama for the Democratic nomination.

"But it turns out the women of America aren't finished yet and we can shatter that glass ceiling once and for all," she said.

-Palin

Here is a question for you. What, if anything, does she have in common with the politics of Hillary Clinton? In Clintons case it is her politics, experience and talents NOT her gender that made her attractive to female voters. The fact that she is a woman was simply a unifying variable. I'm estimating now that this choice and the language coming out of the McCain campaign will drive Clinton supporters to Obama in mass numbers. IMO, Palin directly insulted the intelligence of every woman who supported Clinton in the above quote, on day one. DAY ONE!! at least give it some time before you let everyone see RIGHT THROUGH YOU! Just imagine if Clinton won the nomination and Straight Talk named....I don't know...Jesse Jackson as VP?? Replace gender with race in the above quote.

Example:

"Governor Jackson ... will remind African Americans that if they are not welcome on the Democrat's ticket, they have a place with Republicans"

Has quite the ring, no?

Another question - If Palin was a male candidate during the discussions for VP with the same resume, does Mr. Palin even get a second look? I think not. She is being used and taken advantage of by the "Straightalk Express".

End of Career.

There is no sense in us debating the experience of Sarah Palin when she has so much more experience than than Barrack Obama. Running a state or a city includes budgetary responsibility in addition to disaster preparedness and response, oversight for police, fire, highway, and other city and state services, etc. Whatever Obama learned as a community organizer pales in comparison. I am told that she enjoys a 90% popularity rating from Alaskans, evidence that she handles those responsibilities very well.

But I would like to answer your question about what she has in common with Hillary Clinton. Simply put, she has been similarly successful in politics despite the glass ceiling that women must contend with in politics or business. I agree that McCain picked her because she's a woman but also because of her track record as a cost cutter that has worked across political factions for the good of the people of Alaska. And yes, there are many disgruntled Hillary fans out there that think that Obama and the media played it dirty with Clinton's candidacy. Let's face it - the media loves a "rock star" and Obama's campaign took advantage of it.

And just for the record, characterizing McCain as a POW does not do justice to this man. You get to be a POW by getting captured and that takes no skill at all. John McCain is an American hero because he was given the chance of an early release due to his families background and turned it down knowing it would subject him to longer captivity and additional brutal torture. That speaks to the man's character and I see nothing in either Obama's or Biden's resume that comes close to equaling that kind of heroism.

Looks like your girl Palin is in some capital T trouble....

Also, yes she has a different kind of experience than Obama however, all those years on the PTA and being a "Hockey Mom" isn't really comparable to being a professor of Constitutional law and his community organizing background...

Finally, I don't mean to take anything away from McCain and his years of torture; it would just be nice if he could answer some difficult questions instead of responding with, Look I was a POW....That's like Bush saying, because I found the Lord.

Trouble? What trouble? Although even Obama feels that this is a private family matter, I would think that her daughter's becoming pregnant before marriage would be a plus with free-thinking Liberals and her decision to keep the baby rather than abort will be a plus for Conservatives. Nobody gets hurt, not even the baby.

As far as the investigation that the wonderful NY Times highlights, Palin herself asked the state Attorney General to look into the matter. We will soon know if this reaches the same sleazy level as Obama's financial dealings with recently indicted Tony Rezko.

Zero vetting by McCain. This is how he chooses a running mate? 1 face to face meeting? The most important decision of his campaign and he performs with haste!?!

Puh-lease! I had more background checks and face to face time for my job! You know far better than this yourself.

The skeletons will come out, the process by which she was chosen stinks of amatuerism and is a HUGE blow to the entire campaign.

Lovely.....

PS: When you write sleazy financial dealings with Rezko you actually mean sleazy ads run by McCain that bear almost no factual information, right?

No, what I am referring to by sleazy dealings is the fact that despite Obamas tough talk about ethics reform, he approached known influence peddler Tony Rezko who was under federal investigation, about "advice" as he sought to buy a house shortly after he was elected to the United States Senate.

The parcel included an adjacent lot which Obama told the Chicago Tribune he could not afford because “it was already a stretch to buy the house.”

No problem because on the same day Obama closed on his house, Rezko’s wife bought the adjacent empty lot, meeting the condition of the seller who wanted to sell both properties at the same time.

Rezko had been widely reported to be under investigation by the U.S. attorney and the FBI at the time Obama contacted him and has since been indicted on corruption charges by a federal grand jury in a case that prosecutors say involves bribes, kickbacks and “efforts to illegally obtain millions of dollars.”

While Rezko’s wife paid the full asking price for the land, Obama paid $300,000 under the asking price for the house. The house sold for $1,650,000 and the price Rezko’s wife paid for the land was $625,000.

Obama then expanded his property by buying a strip of the Rezko land for $104,5000, which the senator maintains was a fair market price.

Simply put, US Senators, especially those that give pretty speeches about ethics reform, are not supposed to benefit from their association with influence peddlers. It didn't stop there by the way - ABC News found that Rezko or people and organziations connected to him, contributed $120,000 to Obamas Senate campaign.

That hypocrisy is what I call "sleazy".
